Time's Patina
Artwork Details
About This Artwork
This work captures the beauty of aged copper and bronze, inspired by the natural transformation that time creates. Like the blue-green patina that forms on ancient bronze doors or copper roofs over many years, I sought to express the flow of time on canvas.
By layering various shades of mint and turquoise greens, and adding deep black shadows, I created rich, deep colors reminiscent of centuries-old artifacts. Through repeated processes of applying thick paint, scraping it away, and reapplying it, I aimed to recreate the natural marks that time leaves behind.
The vertical paint textures resemble rain trails that have run down ancient statues over the years, while the scattered dark traces suggest fragments of memories hidden within the layers. The surface, with its interplay of rough and smooth textures, invites viewers to reach out and touch it.
This painting challenges the negative perception of aging and oxidation, instead celebrating the natural beauty that time creates. Just as ancient architecture and artifacts become more beautiful with the passage of time, this work expresses the special value that time adds to everything it touches.
